The Road to Intro 455-A
October 7th, 2021: Intro 455-A was brought to a vote and passed 44:1. This new version includes: 1.) A local law that requires a swift transition to an all electric school bus fleet by 2035 2.) Requires the Department of Education to report to the Mayor and Speaker on several implementation targets, establishing three reporting deadlines: July 1, 2023, 2028, and 2033.
September 30, 2021: Our coalition holds a rally on the steps of Tweed Courthouse to show support for Intro 455-A & electric school buses.
September 29, 2021: Intro 455-A is aged, making it eligible to be brought to a vote at the NYC Council.
March 23, 2021: Our coalition testified for the funding of electric school buses at the City Council Committee on Education Preliminary Budget Hearing.
February 2018: Councilman Danny Dromm and former Council Member Rafael Espinal Introduced Intro 455 which 1. ) Required all diesel school buses subject to NYC school bus contracts be retired after they reach 10 years past the manufacturing date and be replaced by either diesel buses that meet the latest EPA standards, compressed natural gas, hybrid, gasoline-powered, or fully electric models. 2.) Required that after September 2040, all school buses must be replaced with zero emission vehicles when they reach 10 years past the manufacturing date.
